Core concepts
Puelas uses a few terms of its own to describe the herd and its work. These are the fundamental concepts.
Organization
An organization is a livestock operation. All data (animals, sessions, lots, products, declarations) belongs to a single organization, and nobody outside sees it unless they are given access.
There are two types:

| Consignment agency | Consigns other producers' cattle. Builds consignments with the animals of the producers who give it access. Has no herd of its own. |
A person can belong to several organizations and switch between them from the account menu.
Animal
Each animal is identified by its electronic tag, which is unique within the organization. The visual tag is a free-form label: it can be missing or repeated.
As the files bring them in, the following are known about the animal: sex, breed, sire, how it was conceived, birth year and month, lot and establishment.
Session
A session is a chute day: what the indicator recorded on a given day. Each imported file creates a session, with a kind: Weaning, Weighing, Pre-breeding, Ultrasound or Palpation. See Sessions.
Reading
A reading is what was recorded for an animal in a session:

Carrying, late counts as pregnant in all calculations.
Timeline
An animal's timeline brings together all its readings and treatments, ordered by date. It is the reason Puelas exists: no single file tells the whole story, but together they do.
Lot
A lot is a management group. Each animal is in a lot or in none. See Lots.
Product and treatment
A product is something that is applied (a vaccine, an antiparasitic) with its withdrawal period in days. A treatment records that a product was applied to an animal on a date. See Treatments.
Withdrawal period
The withdrawal period is the time, after a treatment, during which the animal can't be sold. Puelas calculates the date it lasts until and warns you.
Establishment
An establishment is a RENSPA, the identifier by which SENASA knows the organization. It is used for SENASA declarations.
Consignment
A consignment is a group of a producer's animals handed over for sale. The agency or the producer themselves puts it together. See Consignments for producers and for agencies.
Import rule
A rule tells Puelas what a column in a file means, or a value within it. Puelas comes with rules for the usual files and learns new ones the first time it finds them. See Import format.
